Food safety officials of the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) conducted inspections at two food establishments in Madeenaguda and Moosapet areas of Hyderabad on Tuesday and found many hygiene and food safety violations.

During an inspection at Gismat Jail Mandi restaurant in Madeenaguda, the food safety team found raw and semi-prepared non-vegetarian food items stored without labels, while chicken, mutton and fish were stored improperly. The improperly stored food items were discarded immediately during the inspection.

The establishment was operating without a valid Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) licence. The dish wash area at the restaurant was found to be unhygienic with stagnant water and food waste accumulation, while raw material storage containers were untidy. Food handlers were working without aprons and hand gloves, and iron knives along with damaged chopping boards were being used in the kitchen, the civic body said.

Following the inspection, the CMC food safety team served a show cause notice to the establishment and directed the management to immediately rectify the violations.

In another inspection conducted at Udupi Upahar restaurant in Moosapet, officials found slippery kitchen flooring and clogged drains filled with food waste. Cooked veg biryani, cooked rice, batter, paneer, manchurian and dough were found improperly stored inside freezers.
