A fresh 42% hike in commercial LPG cylinder prices on Friday (May 1, 2026) morning has pushed hostel and paying guest (PG) operators in Hyderabad deeper into a cost and supply crisis, forcing many to fall back on wood-fired stoves, diesel chulhas and induction cooking to keep the places running.

The reaction on the ground is not one of protest, but of quiet acceptance, a sense of resignation, almost, of “what more can go wrong”.
