Raghav Chadha borrows from Dhurandhar to rip into AAP’s ‘white lies’

New Delhi: AAP MP Raghav Chadha on Saturday escalated his attack on the party, accusing it of “lying” and levelling false allegations against him as part of a “scripted and coordinated” campaign, further deepening his rift with the party after being dropped as its deputy leader in Rajya Sabha.

He released a new video—titled Three Allegations Zero Truth—on social media, refuting major allegations made against him by party leaders, including that Chadha refused to join Opposition walkouts from the House.

He rejected this claim as a “white lie”, challenging the party to produce CCTV footage of any instance where he did not walk out with the Opposition.

“I went to the parliament to create impact, not disrupt,” Chadha said in his video.

On the attack for not signing the Opposition’s impeachment motion against the Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, Chadha asked why he was being singled out when 6 or 7 out of 10 AAP Rajya Sabha MPs did not sign the motion. He also said the party did not communicate to him about this, either officially or unofficially.

He further rejected allegations that he raises trivial issues out of fear of the BJP, reiterating that his focus has been on taxpayers’ concerns, not disrupting Parliament.

“I have spoken on GST, income tax, Punjab’s water, Delhi’s air pollution, the condition of government schools, strengthening public healthcare, and problems faced by passengers in Indian Railways. I have even raised issues like menstrual health, which people often hesitate to discuss, along with unemployment and inflation. You can check my four-year parliamentary record,” he said.

He concluded the video with the dialogue “Ghayal hoon isliye ghatak hoon (I am dangerous because I am hurt)” from Bollywwod movie Dhurandar, saying all questions would be answered and every “lie” peddled by the AAP would be exposed.

The AAP on Thursday wrote to the Rajya Sabha secretariat, recommending that AAP MP Ashok Mittal be made its new deputy leader, a post Chaddha held.

This triggered a war of words between the party leaders and Chaddha, once considered a close aide of AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal.

AAP leaders alleged that Chadha was focused on his own personal PR rather than fulfilling his role as an MP from. They also referred to him as ‘darpok (coward).’

On Friday, after he was dropped as the party’s deputy leader in Rajya Sabha, Chadha released a video message, alleging attempts to silence him in the Upper House. He called the move a punishment for raising “aam aadmi” issues, and asserted that his silence must not be mistaken for defeat.

Chaddha has been associated with the AAP since its inception and was considered a close aide of Arvind Kejriwal, while also becoming one of the most visible spokespersons of the party. He was appointed as National Treasurer when he was just 26. He won the 2020 Delhi Assembly election and became an MLA. He later entered Rajya Sabha as an AAP nominee.

Ashok Mittal, who replaces Raghav Chaddha as AAP’s deputy leader in RS, downplayed the change, referring to it as ‘democratic process’.

All was well within the party, he said. “Before Raghav, it was ND Gupta as the deputy leader. Our party is democratic and this is a routine change,” he told ThePrint.
