Institute Gathering of VNIT Nagpur: Shashwatam’26 Kicks off with Grand Rally, Concludes as a Celebration of Unity and Excellence


The sprawling grounds of Visvesvaraya National Institute of Technology came alive on the evening of March 16th as Shashwatam ’26, the institute’s annual gathering, was formally inaugurated with a spectacular departmental rally. Held at the VNIT Main Ground from 6:30 PM onwards, the ceremony set the tone for a ten days long celebration of talent, teamwork, and competitive spirit under the theme “Shashwatam – The Eternal Spirit.” The inaugural evening witnessed an electrifying transformation of the campus, as academic routines gave way to vibrant displays of unity and enthusiasm. The highlight of the ceremony was the departmental march, where eight departments entered in sequence, each showcasing their identity through powerful war cries and spirited performances. The participating departments included Metallurgical and Materials Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Architecture and Planning, and Chemical and Mining Engineering. A poignant moment unfolded as former departmental representatives symbolically handed over flags to the current leaders, signifying continuity and responsibility. The ceremony reached its crescendo when General Secretary Rohit Shrivas spoke on the enduring spirit of “Shashwatam,” after which the Honourable Director Prof. Prem Lal Patel officially declared the Institute Gathering open. The much-anticipated mascot reveal added a dramatic flourish, drawing cheers from the crowd.

Over the following days, from March 13th  to March 22nd , Shashwatam 2026 unfolded as a grand festival featuring over 80 events across cultural, creative, sports, athletic, and literary domains. Students participated enthusiastically, creating an atmosphere of camaraderie and healthy competition. The event culminated on March 24th with a grand closing ceremony. The Mechanical Engineering Department emerged as the overall champion, demonstrating consistent excellence throughout the fest, while the Electrical Engineering and Architecture & Planning Departments secured the first and second runner-up positions. Shashwatam ’26 ultimately stood as more than just a competition—it was a vibrant reflection of campus life, celebrating not only achievements but also the unity, resilience, and collective spirit that define the student community.
