Factory owner booked after welder killed in gas cylinder blast in Nagpur

Nagpur: Yashodhara Nagar Police have registered a criminal case against the owner of a fabrication workshop after a 50-year-old welder died in a gas cylinder explosion while at work in Rahmat Nagar on Wednesday morning.

The deceased has been identified as Saeed Ahmed Vakil Ahmed Ansari (50), a resident of Azad Nagar, Nai Basti Teka. According to police, the incident occurred between 10.30 am and 11 am at Ansari Fabrication Workshop, located at Plot No. 26, Wanjari Naka No. 2 Road, Rahmat Nagar, under the jurisdiction of Yashodhara Nagar Police Station.

Police said Saeed Ahmed was carrying out gas welding work when the gas cylinder allegedly exploded, leaving him critically injured. He was rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Based on a complaint lodged by the deceased’s younger brother, Tufail Ahmed Vakil Ahmed Ansari (40), police have booked the factory owner, Abdul Qayyum Ansari (55), a resident of Farooq Nagar, Teka Naka.

According to the complaint, the owner was allegedly aware that the gas welding equipment and its hose were defective and that gas leakage had been noticed before the incident. Despite knowing that the faulty equipment posed a serious risk of a major accident, he allegedly failed to repair or replace it, resulting in the fatal explosion.

Acting on the complaint, Assistant Police Inspector Suresh Bunde of Yashodhara Nagar Police Station registered an offence against the factory owner under Sections 106(1) (causing death by negligence) and 288 (negligent conduct with respect to repairing or operating machinery/buildings) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of the explosion and whether safety norms were violated at the fabrication unit.
