Nagpur man booked for alleged assault blackmail forced religious conversion attempt

Police in Nagpur have arrested two persons and launched a search for another accused in connection with an alleged case of rape, blackmail, and attempted forced religious conversion of a married woman.
The case was registered at the Sonegaon Police Station following a complaint lodged by the 24-year-old woman.
According to police, the woman’s husband is employed with the Indian Air Force and is currently posted abroad. The complainant works in the property business.
Investigators said one of the accused was a former classmate of the woman. According to the complaint, he allegedly took her to a hotel in February 2025 on the pretext of discussing the purchase of a plot of land.
The woman alleged that she was given a drink laced with an intoxicating substance, following which the accused raped her and recorded objectionable videos and photographs.
Police said the complainant alleged that the accused subsequently subjected her to repeated sexual assault by threatening to make the recordings public.
The FIR further states that the accused allegedly pressured the woman to convert her religion and made her consume water mixed with an unidentified substance while reciting religious verses.
According to the complaint, on May 31, the accused allegedly took the woman to Kalameshwar, where two other persons joined him. The woman alleged that she was taken to a secluded location, where religious rituals were performed, and she was coerced into reciting words associated with a religious conversion ceremony.
The complainant further alleged that she was sexually assaulted again before being dropped near her residence.
Police said the woman later informed her husband about the alleged incidents after he returned home. The couple subsequently approached the Sonegaon Police Station and filed a complaint.
Two accused have been arrested, while efforts are under way to trace the third suspect, police said.
